Cardiovascular

Dr Mustafa is looking at the regulation of blood flow to the heart.
  • He is studying 4 different genes which control receptors for adenosine-- a chemical released by the heart which causes dilation of blood vessels increasing blood flow and the supply of oxygen to the heart.

  • This work is attempting to determine how each receptor plays a role in the normal heart and then in the heart with coronary disease. In coronary disease the supply of oxygen does not match the needs of the heart.
